date with Spidey

i must admit i was pretty stoked (according to my house church members, this word originated with andrew fulton, so i apologize for having plagiarized all these years) to see this movie. i plotted and schemed and finally decided i would coerce members of said house church to attend a 9 or 9:30 showing with me after our meeting. my plan worked, and my son tyler drove to south bend to pick up tickets around 4:30 for a group he was already going with and got ours as well. after the last three hours of cheer camp, i tried in vain to take a well-meaning nap in anticipation of a bleary-eyed midnight drop-off route after the movie (all of the girls would be riding with me to the movie and hence would need a ride home). three cell phone calls in 20 minutes effectively botched those plans, and i headed off to dinner with an out-of-town guest whom i only really knew by name some 10 years ago (for moral support). at least food was involved, and the best home-grown fare at that (hacienda!). at house church, we played volleyball (or, as i like to refer to it, "hit-it-into-the-road-and-then-run-like-a-girl-across-the-road-because-you're-bare-foot and-there-is-painful-gravel-while-trying-not-to-get-hit-by-an-oncoming-vehicle ball"), during which i succeeded in creating an orange-sized lump on my right shin. i would go into detail, but i honestly have no idea where it came from. i noticed it later on while i was on the trampoline. in case you're wondering, we did eventually get down to business and managed to have a meaningful discussion (read: giddy girls barely able to contain themselves while waiting to be called on to answer while jr. high boys stifle yawns and manage a few grunts in response). at the end of the evening, we enjoyed ice cream sundaes and then piled into my parents' 6-passenger van with 7 passengers (6 girls plus me). one of my CITs from the camp i just counseled at even showed up after her missions trip meeting to go with us, even though she hasn't been able to come to house church yet this summer. we arrived, inexplicably, in a timely fashion, as the first preview (or should i say, more than lame coke commercial) was starting. my son had failed to save a sufficient number of seats, so we had to split up. Chelsey and i opted for the two seats open in the non-vision-impairing section while the rest of the girls sat three rows from the front, under blankets.

To Be Continued ... (actual movie review to be posted after lunch)
