from the "in case you were wondering if this ever ends" department

well, i realize it's taken me quite some time to put the finishing touches on my verbose weekend update, but i have one more thing i feel merits a few column inches.

on the ride home (after a pitstop at dunkin' donuts and borders) i once again attempted a nap and managed an uninterrupted voyage but couldn't put down the magazines i'd just purchased. (and what i wouldn't have done for a portable tv after seeing some swimmer named Phelps gracing the pages of just about every magazine on the shelf!!! the only real [not used as an adverb, hence the omitted -ly suffix] bad thing about the weekend was missing the first full day of competition at the olympics!) on a side note -- which i fully realize are what most of my comments can be categorized as -- can i just say what a travesty it is that our phenomenal athletes, let's say the ones NOT in the NBA, are so underappreciated and overlooked for the three years between olympic competition?? we love our swimmers! they totally dominate every year, and we love it! we cherish our gymnasts ... except when we're competing at home, where we could manifest our support for them. isn't the beach volleyball competition spectacular? what, they play that stuff at OUR beach? the WNBA is great! but let's watch the REAL thing ... the men's teams. i would say where are all the intelligent sports fans, but i think that's basically a rhetorical question. ooohhh, what is wrong with this world???

okay, back on subject. the thing i really wanted to say was that i had one wish during this train ride. this wish was that i had been able to take a quality nap in the manner of the guy two seats behind me apparently trying to fit a whole grapefruit in his mouth as his head bobbed dangerously unsupported, his body arched sideways over the aisle, blissfully unaware of his precarious, though quite entertaining, position. sometimes sleep demands a high ransom, and that's okay. i have a profound respect for that guy, a la the kind i have for any person i see "running" at the pace of a box turtle with beet red cheeks and glue-like saliva pasting his/her tongue as i cruise on by in the comfort of my air-conditioning.

okay, that's the last word.
