while i'm hoping most of you reading this can, for one or more reasons, appreciate the true genius that is Dylan, what i really need to let you know is ... Bob Dylan's BAND is out of control in the most complimentary sense.
okay, i did enjoy willie nelson, his laid back stage persona and americana feel. i admit i was waiting most of his set for 'always on my mind' and just managed to bear the inevitable rendition of 'on the road again.'
but dylan, though not fully appreciated by most of the "need to be in bed by 10 p.m." dwindling crowd, was hands down the headliner. his band was tight and kept their energy up through what must have been 20 out of 22 rocking tunes. only a couple were toned down, so they didn't get much rest. 'rainy day women' started his set fabulously. i admittedly couldn't name half the songs they played, which isn't unusual when i see a band live because the only way i learn the names is by memorizing the track listing. i think the only two bands i've ever taken the time or effort to do that for are lp and dashboard. the one song i had to resort to humming to myself as my mom and i left the stadium was 'tambourine man.' that was the main disappointment.
i'll leave out any of the blanket middle-aged imbibery that took place and all its
sordid sundry manifestations.
i'm seriously considering stealing the dylan collection my mom checked out from the library. here's to all the OC music lovers out there.
