My early morning gripe

i felt i had to post this on Relevant's "The Village" review:

wow, every time i read reviews on this site, i walk away appalled by the way people state their opinions as law.

if you liked the movie, great. that's your opinion. if you didn't like the movie, i'm sorry you feel you wasted your money, but again, that's your opinion. can we all just agree that this is about personal preference?

just because you liked it doesn't, in reality, make it the movie of the year. just because you didn't like it doesn't truly mean it's a piece of crap. it just means the way the movie was made is or isn't particularly set to your tastes.

i really like to hear the aspects of things that people like and dislike to keep me thinking analytically. what i don't like is to hear phrases like, "this movie sucked." it's so eloquent. but then again, that's just my opinion.

if you're going to see this movie, please go with more than just the intention of guessing the ending before anyone else. who cares if you figured it out? usually the point of going to the movies is for entertainment, not to prove your quality IQ. that's one of my biggest pet peeves with people when they watch movies!!! in the wise words of someone (i can't think right now who) "enjoy it for what it's worth." if you're going to see something you know will have a twisted ending, enjoy being surprised. if you're going to see a comedy, enjoy it if the people can actually act and there's a plotline, but don't expect it. if you're going to see a chick flick, don't complain about the shallow dialogue or materialism. if you don't want all that, don't go see the movie.

alright, so i don't consider the village my favorite m. night shyamalan flick (signs takes that one), but i did fear for the coronary health of an elderly couple who was sitting in front of me in the theater. and yes, was it ever twisted. william hurt had a great line, and as soon as i can make sure it get it right, i'll post it.
